The main copper ore minerals used in China are chalcopyrite, chalcocite, bornite, and malachite. According to the beneficiation and smelting technology conditions, copper ores are divided into three natural types according to the ratio of copper oxide and copper sulfide: sulfide ore, containing less than 10% copper oxide; oxide ore, containing more than 30% copper oxide; mixed ore, containing 10% to 30% copper oxide.

Based on the conditions of the selection and smelting technology, copper ores are divided into three natural types according to the ratio of copper oxide and copper sulfide: sulfide ore (copper oxide content <10%); oxide ore (copper oxide content >30%); and mixed ore (copper oxide content 10%~30%).

Industrial copper minerals include: native copper, chalcopyrite, chalcocite, bornite, azurite, malachite, etc. More than 280 copper-containing minerals have been discovered, but only 16 are major ones.
